Safety Training Centre

Safety is of paramount importance within the nuclear power sector. Thomas Consulting are delighted to have had a continuing relationship with the training centre at EDF Energy Heysham.

Heysham 2 has commissioned the erection of a new 8m high tower adjacent to the existing Training Centre. The tower will be used to provide safety training to all personnel as part of the site induction process. EDF Energy will also offer specialist training services to other site safety teams posted at Heysham and ultimately across the entire EDF Energy fleet.
The Heysham plant contains very tall structures and working at height is a particular hazard. The working at height is often involves accessing highly congested plant areas. The tower will be used to train rescue teams and develop the necessary skills to affect a rescue, of any operative who might be injured or incapacitated in these areas of the plant..
The structural steel frame of the tower includes two floor levels, cantilevering beams at roof level and attachment points for lifting and lowering equipment and personnel from height.
