Despite this fall construction still remains one of the most dangerous industries to work in. Trips and falls still account for a substantial number of deaths and injuries. A recent prosecution involved both the client and contractor for failing to comply with both the CDM Regulations prior to commencing work and the Health and safety at Work Act for failing to protect both those employed in the work and others employed by the client who was also the building owner to the risk of falls and falling objects. Their failures lead to a person suffering serious injury. The Client was fined £13,320 plus costs of £14,443 and the contractor was fined £26,660 plus cost of £214,443.
