Thomas Consulting Undertake Bridge Inspection for United Utilities following Cumbria Floods
Our experienced bridge inspection engineers were called upon to assist a client following the recent disastrous Cumbrian floods.
United Utilities are constructing improvements to an existing water intake at Dash Beck, near the village of Bassenthwaite. Their site access lay across an existing Mirkholme bridge over Dash Beck. Thomas Consulting had previously undertaken an assessment of the route before works commenced. Following the heavy flooding of local rivers United Utilities commissioned Thomas Consulting to undertake another inspection of the bridge to confirm it’s integrity. we were able to respond promptly and our client avoided unnecessary delays to their work. The bridge is a single span masonry arch with a concrete saddle slab over the original masonry arch ring. The bridge has been subjected to significant river flows.
