Thomas Consulting has completed 30 years of providing consulting engineering services.

Drawing upon the skills and experience of the structural engineering and land reclamation departments of Telford Development Corporation, the firm was founded by 3 of the New Town principal engineers in 1979. They were later joined by their old engineering staff. The founding partners and engineers of the firm had been responsible for designing and developing bridges, highway structures, industrial, commercial property and large new residential developments as well as the reclamation of thousands of acres of land; scarred by centuries of mining and heavy industry. The evidence of this work is seen around Telford in the modern bridges and highways that link together a town with one of the best road networks in the country.

Our work has continued in Telford as well as developing nationally. We have worked with firms such as Ricoh, Maxell and Lyreco International designing their national distribution and production facilities, and many other international and national firms who have established businesses in Telford. Other landmark buildings included the Telford International Tennis and Sports Centre, Ice Rink and number of unique office buildings.

In 1984 the firm established an office in Preston Lancashire providing design and project management services to Blackpool Borough Council including the designs for Chapel Street and Rigby Road Bridges, using the recently developed system of reinforced earth structures, as well a major sewer rehabilitation programme, and later designing civic buildings, schools and sheltered housing schemes.

In 1994 we established our successful office in Lancaster.

Our client base now extends throughout the UK and we have undertaken projects from the South Coast to the Scottish Midlands. Our original services having expanded to include not only all aspects of structural engineering, but highways, sewers and drainage design, contaminated land and geotechnical services, CDM and Party Wall services as well as litigation services such as Expert Witness, Arbitration and Mediation. Our client base now includes many well known regional and national developers, local authorities, housing associations, the Ministry of Defence, British Energy, Universities and timber and steel frame fabricators.
