Consultancy Services to Nuclear Industry Continue to Grow
Thomas Consulting have been providing professional services to the British Energy Group, BEG and their Partner Companies for more than 10 years. BEG is now owned by EDF Energy.
The Practice has been offering professional services to the British Energy Group (BEG, now owned by EDF Energy) and their Partner Companies for more than 10 years. We were initially appointed to assist station personnel at Heysham 1, Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor (AGR) Station, providing structural engineering services on a number of New Build Designs. Since then our services have included; • Assessment of existing Nuclear Structures including Seismic Load Cases • Assessments under LOLER (Lifting Regulations) for Plant Maintenance • Assessment of Plant Item Lay Down areas and Proposed Crane Siting zones • Design and Specification of improved Platforms and Stairs for Plant Access • Structural Inspections including Sea Walls, jetties and other Marine Structures. In 2000 this range of services was extended to the adjacent AGR Station at Heysham 2 and more recently to commissions at the Pressure Water Reactor Station at Sizewell B and the Heysham 2’s sister Station at Torness in Scotland where Thomas Consulting have been assisting with Planning activities for their successfully completed April 2009 Statutory Outage. We are currently working with BEG regarding service provisions at Hunterston B, West of Glasgow on the West Coast of Scotland in preparation for the Station’s Statutory Outage later this year. Thomas Consulting are looking to play an active role in the Nuclear New-Build Programme. We attended the Nuclear Conference in London in September 2008 and will be present at the forthcoming conference in Birmingham on 1st July. The firm’s understanding of British Energy’s working procedures and the need to maintain the Group’s impeccable safety record ensure that the Practice are well placed to make a significant contribution to the New-Build Programme. The Nuclear Industry justifiably demands a proven track record from designers and contractors alike and our reputation for the provision of safe, reliable and cost effective services has ensured a long standing relationship with this valued Client. Should you wish to discuss any of the Services offered by the Practice to the Nuclear Industry, please contact Phil Howden, Partner – Lancaster Office.
