The Waters Edge, Mossley

Sited in the scenic River Tame valley this development required a new 23 metre span access bridge and the re-decking of a Victorian access bridge over the River Tame.

The new bridge was constructed using pre-stressed pre-cast concrete “Y” section Bridge beams and founded upon piled abutments. The design incorporates a shielded integral bridge deck construction. Tameside BC required the bridge to be sympathetic with the heritage and environment of the area, functional decorative cast aluminium parapets have been installed and abutments and wing walls are stone faced to reflect traditional building materials that form part of the heritage of the area.

The original masonry sub-structure of the Victorian access bridge has been strengthened and the new deck has been constructed using pre-stressed pre-cast reinforced concrete beams. The bridge provides access for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles.

Incorporated within the highway works is a vehicular high containment reinforced masonry safety barrier separating the highway from the deep river channel.
